On this day in 1974, Jack Charlton's Boro side seized promotion and the Division Two title with victory over Luton Town.
The Teessiders had taken the old Second Division by storm in what was World Cup winner Charlton's first season as a manager.
The rookie boss had Boro on the brink of promotion by the end of March and this trip to the second-placed Hatters.
David Mills scored the only goal of the game against Luton - who would also secure promotion that season - the final whistle signalling time for the celebrations to start for the white-shirted Boro players.
In an incredible feat which would see Charlton named the first Manager of the Year outside the top tier, Boro would go on to set a record points tally for the division back when a win gained only two points.
