Alen Boksic’s early goal for Boro at Old Trafford was enough to earn us all three points against Manchester United on this day in 2002.
Boro capitalised on a mistake from Juan Sebastian Veron and Benito Carbone played in Boksic, who poked the ball beyond Fabien Barthez with just nine minutes played.
Boksic went close to adding another but was denied by Barthez and Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer brilliantly denied Ruud Van Nistelrooy twice in the second half.
Boro, under the stewardship of former Manchester United assistant manager Steve McClaren, had already got the better of the Red Devils in the FA Cup in January with a 2-0 win at the Riverside.
The Croatian forward would also score in another success over United the following season, on Boxing Day at the Riverside.
This victory for Boro left Arsenal just one point behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s side with two games in hand. The Gunners went on to claim the Premier League crown that season.
