On this day in 2011, Boro gained a bit of breathing space from the drop zone with a four-goal victory over 10-man Bristol City.

Ex-Robin Leroy Lita was the architect - his cross was diverted by City defender Kalifa Cisse into the home side's net for the first goal, then he headed home a second after the break.

Barry Robson bagged number three at the end of a mazy run, and Lita scored again from the penalty spot after David James was dismissed.

It was a biggest win of the season for Boro, one that that took Tony Mowbray's side within two points of City and  the perfect response to an FA Cup exit to League Two Burton a week prior.
