Paddy McNair supplied the corner from which Northern Ireland were to secure victory against Lithuania on Belfast.

Lithuanian Benas Satkus put through his own goal when trying to defend the corner under pressure from Josh Magennis in the first half, and it was a lead the home side weren't to relinquish.

Unable to qualify from Group C, Ian Baraclough's side were looking to finishing with a flourish with back-to-back home games against Lithuania and leaders Italy.

And after taking the lead, Northern Ireland dominated much of the game against Lithuania, having two goals disallowed during a rampant first period.

The visitors were improved in the second half, but former Boro man George Saville still went close to furthering the advantage for the home nation before Conor Washington almost profited from yet another terrific McNair delivery.

The win lifts Northern Ireland to third place in the group - they can't finish any higher - ahead of the Belfast clash with Italy on Monday.
