The club was saddened to learn of the passing of our former player Joe Laidlaw.
Born in Whickham near Gateshead, Joe progressed through Boro's youth ranks alongside the likes of Willie Maddren and David Mills.
Beginning his career as a striker, he debuted for Boro's senior team in March 1968, and after replacing club stalwart Derrick Downing for a home game against Norwich City a year later became a regular in the side.
Joe formed a fine partnership with John Hickton over the next three seasons before moving on to Carlisle United in 1972 - a side who be promoted to the top flight alongside Boro in 1974. He would later enjoy spells with Doncaster Rovers, Portsmouth, Hereford United and Mansfield Town.
Joe passed away last week, aged 71, The thoughts of all at MFC go out to his family and friends.
