With the Sky Bet Championship season now due to finish on July 22 – three weeks after the June 30 contract expiration date – a number of senior players who would otherwise be out of contract have agreed extensions to play the remaining games of the 2019/20 campaign for the club.

Out of contract quartet Adam Clayton, George Friend, Marvin Johnson, and Ryan Shotton have all signed July extensions and will remain available for selection for our final seven games.

Jonny Howson was the club’s other senior player whose contract was due to expire this week, but he has taken up the option of a further one-year contract extension.

Meanwhile, young professionals Mitchell Curry, Nathan Dale, Enes Mahmutovic, Layton Watts, and Stephen Wearne are all departing the club, along with third-year scholar Nick Hood, and second-years Harold Essien, and Harry Flatters.

Mahmutovic is the only departure who has played first team football for Boro, having made two Carabao Cup appearances in 2018, while striker Curry had a loan spell with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Wearne also tasted life with the first team when he featured in a number of pre-season friendlies.

Rudy Gestede and Daniel Ayala have both left the club with their contracts due to expire on Tuesday.
