Rhys Williams is to undergo surgery in London this afternoon after being diagnosed with another rupture of his Achilles tendon.

Scans have revealed that the Australian international damaged another part of the tendon at Barnsley on Saturday after completing an 11-month recovery from his original injury.

The current rupture - where the tendon attaches to the heel - is said by medics to be extremely rare and not related to his original problem.

Rhys, who had played 66 minutes of an U21 game and a few minutes as a sub against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, was starting a game for the first time in 11 months at Oakwell but lasted just over a minute.
