George Saville and Paddy McNair played a full match between them for Northern Ireland, who lost to Norway by virtue of an own goal on Tuesday.
Saville started at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, and came through a shade more than an hour unscathed before being replaced by Boro teammate McNair for the remaining thirty.
It was an improved showing for the Green and White Army when compared to the reverse fixture, which Norway won 5-1 at Windsor Park just over a month ago.
But an own goal from substitute Stuart Dallas ultimately settled it in the hosts' favour.
It's a result which leaves Ian Baraclough's side bottom of their UEFA Nations League group with a single point to their name, having also lost to table toppers Austria at the weekend.
But the Boro duo will report back to Rockliffe in high spirits having helped deliver a EURO 2020 play-off semi-final success away to Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier in the international break.
