Steve Agnew says Boro have to dust themselves down and go again after defeat at Hull City.
The hosts ran out 4-2 winners on the night, and Agnew says Boro must learn from the match.
"We didn't get the balance right," Agnew said.
"We have to give it a go at this stage of the season and the position we're in, and we did that.
"But the disappointment is that we left it far too open. The risk has to be calculated and we have to learn from today."
Agnew says Boro will regroup and continue to fight, beginning with Saturday's match against Burnley.
"We have a group of players who'll fight until the very end, starting with a home game this weekend," he said.
"We have to dust ourselves down and go again.
"The fans tonight were fantastic, the players all remarked on that.
"We have to give them something back, and there's no better place to do that than the Riverside on Saturday."
