Teesside Samaritans is a charity that works across Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Hartlepool, offering emotional support for anyone who is going through a difficult time.

It has been a particularly testing time for those who are vulnerable and isolated within our community, and the Teesside Samaritans - based on Borough Road in Middlesbrough - engage with more than 1,000 people every month via telephone, email or face-to-face contact.

Teesside Samaritans help people from all walks of life, though their campaigning on this occasion is particularly aimed at local men aged 25-65. In the UK, men are three times more likely to take their own lives, while suicide is the biggest killer under 50. A recent survey also found that two in five men in the UK aged 20-59 do not seek support because they prefer to try and solve their own problems.

The charity aim to change that perception, championing the benefits of getting in touch and seeking help when needed.

If you feel you want to contact Samaritans for support, please use 116123 for a free non-traceable call, or email jo@samaritans.org.

Tonight’s match sponsorship is funded by a grassroots community grant from NHS England Suicide Prevention aiming to raise awareness for Teesside Samaritans and their vital work in our region.

They rely on generous donations from the public, and all funds raised through the auction of Howson's boots will go to support the charity.
