Steve Agnew addressed the media on Tuesday ahead of Boro's Premier League match against Sunderland on Wednesday evening.

Here's what the Head Coach had to say:

On Wednesday's Tees-Wear derby:

"It's a game we have to win.

"It's been like that in recent weeks, and we've been building towards that win.

"On Saturday [against Bournemouth] that wasn't the case, and that's why it was so disappointing.

"Initially, after the game, the players who were angry and disappointed, as we all were. You have to be open and honest in these situations.

"But we move forward quickly, and lots of good work has gone in over the past few days.

"I think the reaction the lads have shown in training they're ready for a North East derby.

"Most importantly, we need the three points. Secondly, we have to put on a show for the supporters. And thirdly, there has to be a reaction after the disappointment of Saturday.

"It's challenging, but that's why I'm in the position. We're very focused and looking forward to it."

On the Boro support:

"The fans have been absolutely fantastic, home and away.

"We have to give the supporters something to shout about because they've had a long hard season.

"It's a North East derby, and the passion and the energy that will come from 30,000 Teessiders is everything the players need.

"Now we have to approach it with intent and fighting spirit.

"You want to supporters to have an enjoyable night, a vocal night, and walk away from the stadium saying, you know what, that was a fantastic performance."

On player fitness and availability:

"Victor Valdes has a rib injury so will miss out.

"Grant Leadbitter and Marten de Roon have trained this morning.

"Everyone else is fit."
