Marcus Tavernier has become the twelfth academy graduate to reach 100 appearances for the club.

Saturday's FA Cup fixture with Brentford, which Boro lost 2-1, was a milestone match for the Leeds-born midfielder and he joins an elite group of players including Stewart Downing, Ben Gibson and Dael Fry to reach triple figures having been nurtured at Rockliffe.

Tavernier, who joined the club at Under-14 level, made his debut against Scunthorpe in the League Cup first round in 2017 before scoring his first goal against Bournemouth in the same competition two months later.

The 21-year-old has since established himself as an integral first team player, notching 25 appearances so far this season, the highest tally in the squad.

Recently, Tavernier won the Goal of the Month award for December with his strike against Millwall and added another thunderous effort versus Wycombe only a week ago, the twelfth time he has scored for Boro.

The England Under-20 international has a way to go to catch Downing’s number of appearances, with the now Blackburn Rovers midfielder featuring over 400 times for the Boro.

Lewis Wing made his 90th appearance against Brentford and looks set to become the thirteenth player to reach the milestone.
