Anfernee Dijksteel is the latest player to move closer to a return this week, Jonathan Woodgate has confirmed.
The defender, signed from Charlton Athletic last summer, follows Ryan Shotton and George Friend in returning to the first team fold in recent weeks.
“Dijksteel has been back in training, and we’ll look to get him 70 minutes in a friendly next week,” Woodgate said in his pre-match media conference on Wednesday.
“Dani [Ayala] is still three or four weeks away, Dael [Fry] probably four weeks as well, we’re not expecting them back any time soon.
"I don't want to put any pressure or a timescale on Patrick Roberts but he is doing really well."
Woodgate was pleased to report that Friend came through 90 minutes of competitive action unscathed last Saturday.
“George got through it - to put him in that early wasn’t ideal, but needs must really,” Woodgate said.
“He’s a big character in this club, and the more leaders the better.
“With him and Ryan Shotton coming back recently, they know this division inside out.”
