Neil Warnock says he is weighing up whether or not to have Ashley Fletcher lead the line against Bristol City on Tuesday (7pm).
The Boro striker has scored two goals in his first two starts since a long-term lay-off, but his manager is determined to manage the physical demands to keep him fit for the full run-in.
“He’s done very well, Fletch, and shown us something we were missing - and not many would change a team after two wins,” Warnock said.
“But he’s been out months and months, and he had a full 90 minutes at the weekend.
“We have two games in four days, and it’s important he plays against Cardiff because we need his height and physicality.
“I don’t know whether to give someone else a chance. I’ll have a quiet word with Ashley and see how he is.”
Elsewhere, Yannick Bolasie and Marcus Tavernier are quietly progressing on their route to recovery.
“I got a call from the physio on Saturday to say Yannick and Tav had done and hour and a half with no problems, so that was good news," said the boss.
“I don’t know if they will be stepping up to contact training just yet, we will see.”
