Boro manager Tony Pulis says striker Rudy Gestede is closing in on a return to first team action.
The Benin international was sidelined in the second half of last season with a fractured ankle, and briefly played in the Play-Off semi-final second leg against Aston Villa and featured in some games during pre-season.
Pulis says Gestede will reap the benefits from more training having had a week’s worth under his belt as he inches closer to a return, and was also full of praise for fellow forward Jordan Hugill.
“Rudy (Gestede) was out for a long time, he’s training and has had a week with us,” he said.
“I’ll speak to the doctor and get him moving. He’s getting close, which is good for us.
“He’s been training with us, he’s had a week’s training and having been out for three months, it’s a lot for him.
“Jordan’s (Hugill) better, he looks leaner, he’s trained really and he’s a good lad.”
