A trio of Boro's Spanish players have been highlighted by The Telegraph among the Premier League's top performers this season.

The national newspaper has used statistics and the judgement of their journalists to rank the twenty best defenders, midfielders and forwards in England's top flight, as well as the ten best goalkeepers.

Here's what they had to say about three of Boro's summer arrivals.

Victor Valdes (9th best goalkeeper)

"Those from the British goalkeeping tradition would prefer more catches and fewer punches but his reflexes, anticipation and agility against Watford when he earned his side a point demonstrate his enduring class."

Antonio Barragan (6th best defender)

"What a signing this has been for the Boro, who have surprised many with a series of solid defensive displays this term. Aitor Karanka will be hoping that Barragan's recent hamstring injury clears up ASAP."

Alvaro Negredo (11th best striker)

"Nine goals and assists for a team as goal-shy as Boro is an impressive return for the man they call The Beast. What a coup it was to sign him: if they survive they will have Negredo to thank."
