Boro manager Tony Pulis hailed his side’s back four for their recent performances ahead of tomorrow’s fourth round FA Cup clash with Brighton and Hove Albion (3pm).
Dani Ayala has scored three goals since Pulis’ tutelage began at the back end of December, whilst George Friend ended a two-year goal drought in last week’s win over Queens Park Rangers.
Pulis was quick to praise on the rest his entire backline for their showings since he arrived last month.
“People are talking about Dani’s goals but his performance levels and the whole of the back four have really stepped up to the mark since I’ve come into the football club,” he said.
“George Friend looked very nervous when we first came in and his performances have been first class, Gibbo (Ben Gibson) has done brilliant and Shotton’s done really well at right back as well.
“It’s not just Dani – the four of them have stepped up and we need that, we need a solid base.”
