No fewer than seven players - six from our Academy - made senior Boro debuts in the last round, a penalty shootout victory over Notts County at the Riverside.

And the Boro manger was suitably impressed, enough to trust the fledgling stars against familiar opposition tonight.

"It was strange seeing the draw being made as we played Rochdale in a pre-season game," Pulis said, recalling a 3-2 defeat for a similarly young Boro side back in pre-season.

"They played really well. The manager [Keith Hill] has got them well sorted.

"Rochdale really looked after us there, and no we've got a chance of looking after them and making sure they feel welcome.

"I'll play a lot of the kids again, I'll give them the opportunity - and fingers crossed they'll give a performance like they did last time."
