Boro's Under-18s went down 6-2 at home to a strong Liverpool side in their final game before Lee Cattermole takes over as lead coach.
Boro had beaten Liverpool 4-3 earlier in the season when Calum Kavanagh bagged a hat-trick, but the striker is in the U23s squad travelling to Southampton for Sunday's PL 2 clash.
Sonny Finch also scored in that win and it took him just two minutes to fire Boro ahead at Rockliffe this time around, but Liverpool had turned the scores around before the quarter-hour and were 4-1 up by the break.
Lee Jonas levelled before Liverpool took the lead after an own goal from Alfie Myers-Smith. Oakley Cannonier went on to bag a brace before the break to put the visitors firmly in command.
Nathan Simpson pulled a goal back for Boro early in the second half, but any hopes of a comeback were extinguished within two minutes when Luke Chambers scored Liverpool's fifth of the game.
