Boro's Under-23s claimed a resounding victory against Sunderland at the Academy of Light on Monday.
The Wearsiders, who included former Boro duo Stephen Wearne and Mitch Curry in their ranks, headed into the contest on the back of a 4-0 win over north east neighbours Newcastle a fortnight ago.
But it was the Boro who came away with a convincing win from this PL2 derby.
Isiah Cornet drew first blood for Graeme Lee's side inside five minutes, assisted by Isaac Fletcher.
Fletcher then put his own name on the scoresheet with 10 minutes on the clock, and after Rumarn Burrell had made it three with half an hour played, the midfielder added a fourth in first-half stoppage time.
The goals kept flowing in the second half, Burrell doubling his tally within four minutes of the restart, and Fletcher later completing his hat-trick.
