Adam Clayton says Boro were left cursing their luck after a one-goal defeat to league leaders Norwich.
Boro had our moments, particularly in a cagey first half as Clayton and his teammates pressed high against the Canaries.
Dani Ayala hit the post in the second half just minutes before Norwich's winning goal, the kind of fine margins which Clayton says can come down to confidence.
"We played well first half, had good chances and could have got a goal," he said.
"Their goal was a bit of a sucker punch, a sloppy one and it gives them the confidence.
"I think if we score in the first half it gives us a bit of impetus to have a bit of a strut, keep the ball and pass it about.
"That's what happened to Norwich, they got a bit of confidence and started to play, and made it tough for us.
"But again, we had some good chances to get the ball in the net, it just wasn't our day."
Despite the ultimate disappointment of the result, the midfielder was proud to start a league match for the Boro for the first time since mid-January.
"Walking out again was brilliant, I've worked hard in training and tried to keep myself fit," he said.
"It's unfortunate we've not got the result today but we keep going."
