Boro and Luton Town will face off for the first time in 24 years when the new season kicks off in August, with our last meeting a momentous occasion.
The fixtures for the 2019/20 campaign were revealed this morning, which sees the Teessiders head to Kenilworth Road on Friday August 2, with Luton making their first-ever trip to the Riverside on Saturday February 15.
The Hatters were the last-ever visitors to Ayresome Park in the penultimate game of the 1994/95 campaign, as Boro brought the curtain down on 92 years of football at our former home.
John Hendrie, who topped the goal-scoring charts for us that season with 15, nudged Boro in front on the stroke of half-time, but John Taylor restored parity for the visitors in the second period.
But Hendrie clinched the points – and wrote himself into club folklore as the last goal scorer at Ayresome Park – when he was on hand to slot home from close range.
Luton had won the reverse fixture earlier in the season, running out 5-1 winners, but the three points in our last meeting with the Hatters moved us a step closer to securing the First Division title.
It was sealed on the final day of the season after a 1-1 draw at Tranmere Rovers, earning a place back in the Premier League.
