Our top scorer last season with a goal haul of 16, Assombalonga has been away on international duty with DR Congo at the African Cup of Nations.

The Leopards were defeated on penalties in the round of 16 against Madagascar, and Assombalonga claimed his first goal for DR Congo in the comfortable 4-0 victory over Zimbabwe in their final group game.

Back at Rockliffe Park as Jonathan Woodgate's side press ahead with pre-season preparations, Assombalonga was delighted to be back in the Boro camp with the new campaign on the horizon.

"It's good to be back with the boys. Training today has been enjoyable, everyone smiling and that's the best bit about it," he said.

"I had a week and a bit off and then did a bit of training just to build me up for today and we'll go step by step.

"I'm looking to get back into the groove again, playing games and more training sessions so I'm happy to be back."
