Boro boss Chris Wilder was delighted to welcome his squad back to Rockliffe as the countdown for the new season gets well and truly underway.
Wilder and his players hit the pitches once again this week as the hard work commences ahead of the new Championship campaign.
“It’s great to be back,” said the boss.
“It’s like the first day back at school and good to be amongst it. It’s a brilliant job to have working in that environment and with the buzz it creates, and that’s the buzz we want.
“We want to get out of the blocks in pre-season. There’s no short-cuts, there’s plenty of work going on and we’re all looking to get stuck in. Everyone is in good shape and that shows me they understand we mean business.
“The fans I’ve seen holiday – there’s Boro fans wherever you go - they’re all looking forward to the new season. We’ve got to set ourselves up for what we hope will be an enjoyable and successful campaign.”
Alan Fettis is a new face in his role as goalkeeping coach while there were boosts with Jonny Howson signing a new contract and the arrival of the first summer signing Liam Roberts.
The boss said: “It’s always been an attractive to club to come with the history and tradition but when you look at how we did last season and the FA Cup run…
“It’s an attractive club to join and if we can pull some big players to the club – and we will – there’ll be others come in who we feel we can make us strong.”
Work is also being undertaken inside the building that will further enhance the Rockliffe training complex.
“We’ve made a few renovations at Rockliffe,” added the boss. “I think everyone knows it’s top drawer – it’s Premier League – and our job is to get the team in the Premier League.”
