The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international put pen to paper with the club at the end of last week to become Garry Monk's second signing as Boro manager.

"Once Boro came calling it was a no-brainer," said Christie.

"You look at the support and the chairman and this is a club you want to come to."

Christie joined up with his team-mates for the trip to Portrugal and while some of them may be feeling the heat - he is already acclimatised.

"I was in Tenerife with Derby last week," he explained. "I flew back to sign and then came straight out here.

"The heat makes it tough, but it's good for training, and I'm really enjoying things."
