George Saville says it would have been easy to fold after an early Derby goal at Pride Park - but Boro fought back and could have even snatched three points.
"It was the worst possible start really, to concede so early in the game" he said.
"We were a bit deep and they punished us.
"But you can go one of two ways from that point, and it was a great reaction from the boys. We stuck our chests out and were counted.
"For a big part of the game I thought we were the better side.
"After we scored, Danny Batth had a good chance, and Dani Ayala as well, and we kept chipping away - but in the end we'll take a point."
Saville joined Boro initially on loan from Millwall in the summer, a transfer which is set to become permanent now that the registration window has reopened.
"I'm delighted, obviously," he said.
"It was a bit of a stop-start start for me, personally. But I've played a few games now and I just want to keep going and keep helping the team.
"We all know what we want to achieve at the end of the season."
