Jonathan Woodgate gave his verdict on Boro's Carabao Cup exit against Crewe Alexandra.
After being 2-0 down at half-time, Ashley Fletcher halved the deficit before Marc Bola scored in second half stoppage time to force the first round clash into a penalty shootout, where the visitors went on to prevail.
"Penalties are a lottery, but I'm really disappointed with the display, especially in the first half where we lacked that enthusiasm, we had no drive and we didn't show up," Woodgate said.
"It just shows that if play any cup tie and you don't show up, you'll get found out if you don't show up, and we didn't. They were miles better and they deserved to win."
