Boro drew 1-1 with the newly-relegated former Premier League side and Blackwell, who took charge of the team in Neil Warnock's absence, was pleased with what he saw.

"We could have won the game and on our performance we should have done, but to go 1-0 down and come back showed the performance and was great from the lads," he said.

"The precursor to results is performances and we know we have had two performances against ex Premier League clubs, there's so much for us to take from that."
