Neil Warnock gave his verdict after a close contest with Reading ended all square at the Riverside.
The Boro boss felt aggrieved that Jonny Howson's second half effort fell foul of the linesman's flag, but praised his side's overall showing.
"I think we're unlucky, we scored a good goal and I'm disappointed at that," he said.
"It was always going to be one goal in it, a game like that.
"It was a good performance to say we had a few internationals coming back in and a few other lads stretching.
"I thought they looked a good side and we did as well. They were flying high confidence wise so it's a good point.
"The defending was better and a goal for us would have been the icing on the cake."
