The perseverance paid off for Patrick Roberts at Reading in midweek and he is hoping there is more to follow in Boro’s final two games of the season...
The on-loan wizard scored his first goal in a Boro shirt at the Madejski Stadium and it could prove to be the most important of the season with the 2-1 win giving our survival hopes a massive boost.
“We needed the win on Tuesday,” said Patrick.
“There were only three games to go, and it was important to get the three points and move up the league a bit.
“It was nice to score. You have so many shots and wonder why one doesn’t go in. I’d had one just before and was angry with myself for not scoring, but you keep going and it was nice to get rewarded in the end.”
The win lifted Boro to 50 points and the maths suggest one point from the final two games will be enough, although with Wigan due to face Charlton and Luton to meet Hull, the Reading win alone could prove to be enough to secure our status.
“All we can do is our best and give 100%,” said Patrick. “We have a responsibility to ourselves.
“It’s been tough, but we have to pull our sleeves up and get the results. We’ve had a couple of wins and we’ll push for more from the last two.”
Cardiff are the visitors to the Riverside on Saturday for our final home game of the season.
