Tony Pulis was pleased with the application of his players after a ruthless second half display booked Boro’s place in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.
A double from Britt Assombalonga, a sublime finish from Lewis Wing and goals from Ashley Fletcher and George Friend saw us overcome Peterborough United at the Riverside.
After providing new loan signing Rajiv van La Parra with his debut in the first 45 and withdrawing him at the start of the second half, Pulis feels space opened up for his side to go on and control the game to secure our fourth round spot.
“I thought first half was very open – we had chances, they had chances and we just tweaked it,” he said.
“I was pleased with Raj (Rajiv va La Parra), he’s got 45 minutes in but we can see how well behind he is what we want in respect of fitness and sharpness, so that’s a work in motion for us.
“Second half, once we got the goal, I thought we completely controlled it.
“We played with five forwards in the first half and it didn’t really suit us in respect of getting in the pockets and spaces, so by taking Raj off and bringing Wingy (Lewis Wing) on, that gave us much more opportunities to play forward and get the forwards into pockets and that’s what we did much better second half.”
