Middlesbrough Football Club was saddened to hear of the death of Mick Kennedy, aged 57.
We were one of ten teams Mick played for in a career that saw him make close on 550 appearances in the domestic game and two more for Ireland.
A tough-tackling, highly competitive midfielder, Mick signed for us from Huddersfield in August 1982, making his debut in a 3-1 defeat away to Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the season. The first of five goals for the club coming in a 3-2 win away to Charlton Athletic in the November of that year.
He made 79 appearances in two years with us, leaving to join Portsmouth in the summer of 1984. He was recently inducted into Pompey's Hall of Fame.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Mick's family and friends at this sad time.
