Our youngsters maintained their outstanding form in front of goal in Tuesday’s opening Premier League Cup group game of the season.
A fortnight after putting four past Sunderland at Under-18 level, and a week after or U23s hit six against them, an U17 side put seven past the Black Cats at the Academy of Light in the cup.
Josh Marshall led the way with a brace while Jack Stott, Fenton John, Calum Kavanagh, Alex Hutchison and Alfie Doherty all got their names on the scoresheet in a comofortable 7-3 thrashing of the Wearside youngsters.
Lead coach Mark Tinkler and assistant James Marwood have presided over an impressive start to the season and they were able to hand U16s Max Howells and Luke Woolston a taste of the action at Sunderland.
The U17 competition continues next month when Newcastle visit Rockliffe before Leeds are the final opponents in the group stages in January.
It’s back to league action on Saturday for the U18s when Everton are the visitors to Rockliffe.
