QPR were the visitors to Ayresome Park in 1978, with both sides struggling to kick start their Division 1 season. The game itself saw the visitors comes away with a shock 2-0 victory, thanks to a fine display by mercurial winger Stan Bowles.

However, the game is known for an iconic shot by Evening Gazette photographer Brian Robinson. QPR had just won a corner in front of the Holgate End when the programme of the day was thrown onto the pitch.

Bowles picked it up and proceeded to read it along with team-mate Ian Gillard when the photograph was taken. The result ultimately proved to be no avail to the away side, as they were relegated at the end of the season.

Bowles now sadly suffers from dementia, and a benefit game between QPR and Bournemouth took place in the summer of 2017.
