Family Fun Is At The Heart Of The GRFZ

Whatever your age, there is always plenty to see and do when you attend the Generation Red Family Zone (GRFZ) on a Riverside matchday.

We hope the information below gives you a flavour of what to expect during your visit… but seeing really is believing!

Subs’ Bench (in association with WHSmith Teesside Park)

The Subs’ Bench offers fans of under the age of 11 a warm and comfortable retreat away from the football whenever needed. Open at kick-off and throughout the match, you can catch the ‘Walking Bus’ every 15 minutes from the Creative Corner. Ideal for parents who have young supporters, you can enjoy a little bit of time out from the hustle and bustle of the game. Parents do need to accompany their children at all times.

Baby changing facilities, hot and cold drinks (strictly no alcohol), fruit and sweet goodies are available! There are also lots of fun activities with painting, board games, reading, book loaning, and singing, all of which links in to the national school curriculum, so children learn while having fun!

We also have an Xbox One, kindly donated by GAME Teesside Park, for our young supporters to enjoy playing FIFA!

Middlesbrough Reads

The National Literacy Trust Hub in Middlesbrough, known locally as the Middlesbrough Reads campaign, is delighted to be working with the GRFZ to encourage families to read together.

  • Bond with your bump! Reading out loud from picture books or singing nursery rhymes will help your unborn baby get to know your voice before they enter the world
  • Chat to your little one while they are in the pram about the places you pass and your day-to-day activities
  • Sharing stories for just 10 minutes every day will make your child happy and help them learn

For more ideas on how to support your child’s literacy, visit the Middlesbrough Reads website or email

Cornerstone Interactive Zone and Play the Player

A fantastic interactive zone for supporters of all ages. We have Xbox's and retro arcade games that are all free of charge to play.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road and MFC’s Rainbow (in association with Hollywood Bowl Teesside Park)

Our Yellow Brick Road is amazing with lots of local landmarks such as the Transporter Bridge, Temenos, Roseberry Topping plus more and some special guests such as Captain Boro, Boro Boy, Boro Girl and Princesses.

It really is worth checking out. See our own Dorothy sitting near Roseberry Topping! As you approach the end of our Yellow Brick Road see our MFC Rainbow! Check out the gold pot at the end of the rainbow.

Magically, little gifts keep appearing and if you’re lucky enough to find them you get to keep them! Find a special gold coin and you can trade it in at the GRFZ Retail Shop for a special mystery gift!

Will you be the lucky winner of bowling vouchers and even a bowling party for you and four friends?

The GRFZ has its own retail shop with stock chosen carefully following feedback from fans. It ranges from pocket money items starting at £2.50 through to warm and cosy hoodies at £25. You can also order items from the main Riverside store for collection at half-time or full-time. The GRFZ retail shop accepts payment by cash or card.

In addition to the usual matchday menu, we provide children’s meals for just £3.50, offering chicken nuggets, a burger or hotdog served with chips, a Capri Sun and a packet of Haribos.
